Renault will once again make an effort to jump into the big league which it will now do with its Captur crossover. It is their new D-segment competitor and will be offered both in petrol and diesel guises. We have driven the car and you can find the link here or by locating it in the reviews section of our mobile app.

The Captur is underpinned by the same platform found in the Duster and thus is mechanically the same as the latter. However, the exterior design of the car involves curved lines, heavily flared wheel arches and LED lights all around.

The cabin is a beige and black affair but with a layout that is quite similar to that of the Duster. However, the quality of plastics used is higher and you also get a more detailed instrument cluster with a new design. The Captur will also be the car to debut a new top spec Platine variant for the Renault line up.

Powering the Captur is the 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre i4 engines. In the former the output is 108bhp/245Nm while the petrol engine produces 105bhp/142Nm. There’s a six-speed manual for the diesel while the petrol is expected to be offered on with the CVT setup. We may possibly see an AWD version of the Captur at a later date.

It is expected to start at around Rs 13 lakhs and then carry on all the way to around Rs 17 lakhs for the top spec diesel Platine variant. The Captur takes on the D-segment sedans as well as the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Tata Hexa. Its rivals also include lower spec variants of the Jeep Compass.
