Land Rover has taken the veils off the entirely new Range Rover Velar. This new model will join the brand’s existing line-up which includes the Discovery, the Evoque and the Range Rover.
The Velar will be officially unveiled on March 1, before the Geneva Motor Show. It will eventually be launched as the third member of the Range Rover line-up. It is likely to share its underpinnings with the still new Jaguar F-Pace crossover.
The origin of the Velar name (pronounced vel-ar) dates back to the first Range Rover prototypes of the 1960s. When development engineers needed to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rovers, they chose the name Velar.
Coming back to the upcoming vehicle, the Velar is set to be positioned as the bigger sibling of the Evoque which is currently the most stylish premium crossover in the market. The former, then, will offer more of the same but in a more spacious package.
