Land Rover is now offering petrol variants of the Range Rover Sport for the Indian market. It is being offered in two variants SE and HSE and has priced them at Rs 1.28 crore and Rs 1.49 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). These vehicles are being brought into the country via the CBU route and this is the first time that Range Rover is offering a mid-level petrol variant for the SUV in this current generation.

The petrol engine is a 3.0-litre V6 unit producing 355bhp and 450Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four-wheels via a ZF eight-speed AT and an AWD system.  Standard features on the HSE variant include three-zone climate control, touchscreen infotainment with 19 speaker Meridian audio system, leather upholstery, split folding second row and electric front seats. In terms of exterior design the only major change is different badging at the rear.

This is the first time the Land Rover is offering the Range Rover Sport with a second petrol engine. Till date the only petrol unit on offer is the supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that produces 503bhp and 625Nm of torque. It is available only with the SC autobiography and SVR variants.

The move by JLR to introduce petrol variants for something as large as the Range Rover Sport indicates a shift in demand for petrol vehicles across prices ranges and body sizes. This has been a growing trend due to the reduction of difference in prices between petrol and diesel.
