The much acclaimed Range Rover Evoque has emerged as the first production car in the world to come equipped with the tech laden transmission system, named ZF 9HP. Reportedly, this state-of-the-art gearbox has been jointly designed by the Land Rover’s engineering team and transmission expert ZF. The new gearbox of the Range Rover Evoque assists the model in delivering an increased fuel economy with controlled emission.
Expressing his views on this, the Global Brand Director of Land Rover, John Edwards was quoted as saying, “We are extremely excited about the 9HP which has been tailored exactly to dovetail with the unique attributes of our vehicles. It will add another layer of performance, refinement and efficiency, further enhancing Land Rover’s world class abilities.”
The innovative nine-speed transmission system of the Range Rover has small ratios, which offer an enhanced response during the acceleration, while improving the shift quality. Experts believe that the higher top gear ratio facilitates the model to minimise its fuel consumption and facilitate the engine spin at less rpm, which enhances the refinement. The lowest shift ratio of new Evoque is even lower than the present generation six-speed transmission system, which eventually improves the off roading credentials of the model.
The new transmission system of Evoque also has skip shift function, which allows quick downshifting during higher acceleration. The adaptive drive system of this transmission quickly adapts the driving style and sticks to it. Along with the addition of three gears, the gearbox is just 6 mm longer and is even 7.5 kg lighter than the current six-speed transmission system. This new ZF 9HP gearbox has made its world debut in the Range Rover Evoque, and is expected to get fitted in almost all other vehicles of Land Rover in the coming future.
