Race 2, the sequel to the Indian blockbuster movie 'Race', has become the latest flick to join Rs. 100 crore club in the Hindi Film Industry. Directed by Abbas – Mastan, Race 2 was released all over India on January 25, 2013 and has collected over Rs. 100 crore in just its second week of screening. The movie generated immense hype and hysteria among the fast - paced, action movie lovers, as it featured a number exciting and high performance super sports cars. The high speed action sequences of Race 2 instantly caught attention of most of the automobile aficionados residing in the country.
Race 2 boasted off an extremely decorated star cast, including the likes of John Abraham, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandes and Amisha Patel. The curtains over it becoming the latest member of the coveted 100 crore club were pulled by industry critic and trade analyst- Taran Adarsh. In his Twitter account, Adarsh tweeted that “Race2 collected approx Rs. 24.35 cr nett SIZZLING! Bollywood divas at Race 2 screening in Week 2. Grand total: approx Rs. 100.45 cr nett.” As per reports, the Saif and Deepika starrer flick collected Rs. 51.35 crore in its opening weekend, from all over the country and overseas markets. Evidently, the movie witnessed an outstanding opening weekend with heavy collection during the weekends.
The action thriller features a number of exciting high speed and powerful super sports cars, such as Audi TT Coupe, Audi R8 Spyder, Audi Q7 SUV and Lamborghini Gallardo, amongst others. There is also an action sequence where a Lamborghini Gallardo is blown up to 50 feet in the air, which is one of the many edge-of-the-seat moments of the movie.
