Italian sports car manufacturer, Lamborghini recently announced that it would stop the production of its iconic Gallardo model. With this announcement, the era of Gallardo comes to an end after being in production for over 10 years. Gallardo built a league of its own as it did not share the same stage with Miura, Countach or Murcielago. Reportedly, the sports car had led the company to come back into profitability during its bad phase. Till now, Lamborghini has built 14022 units of Gallardo, a statistic which makes it company's most produced model. The last model of Gallardo that rolled out from Sant'Agata Bolognese factory was Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante. The final edition version, Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante was among the 32 editions of the car in total.

As told by Lamborghini in a statement, Gallardo was sold in more than 45 countries worldwide. The car was offered to majority of buyers under the 'Ad Personam' program in which the customers could choose to modify the car depending on their preferences. Apart from it, the company launched various special editions of Gallardo in markets like Singapore, Malaysia, China and India. Also to mention, the company built a Gallardo Polizia Stradale edition for the Italian State Police in which blue lights, special paintwork and dedicated equipment were given.

Lamborghini Gallardo first made its appearance at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show marking a change in company's philosophy to increase the average number of models manufactured each year from 250 to around 2000. The extreme design of car made by Centro Stile Lamborghini garnered the attention of many car enthusiasts. As its design had undergone many changes over 10 years, one thing that remained almost the same was its technical concept. The use of systematic lightweight design that was achieved through aluminium space frame and a permanent all wheel drive system are among the many aspects that remained unchanged over the time in Gallardo.

According to reports, Lamborghini is working on the successor of Gallardo named as Cabrera. The car would be aimed to fill in the entry level segment of Lamborghini's product line-up as it is expected to get a more powerful engine. Sources have told that Cabrera would be more hardcore than Gallardo, pumping out 600 bhp of peak power from its upgraded 5.2-litre V10 engine and would get a tag of LP 600-4.
