The South Korean automobile company, Hyundai has discontinued the sales of its i10 model, equipped with the 1.2-litre, Kappa 2 petrol engine. Hyundai i10 will now be available in the 1.1 litre 4-cylinder iRDE engine, only with three variants, namely D-lite, Era and Magna. It must be noted that the delivery of top two variants, Sportz and Asta, which used the 1.2-litre Kappa 2 engines has also been stopped. Automatic transmission, which was available only in the top variants, has also been skipped out from the list of Hyundai i10.

On the other hand, the recently introduced Grand i10 happens to be an upgraded version of the current generation i10 model, but like all other motor companies in India, Hyundai has decided to keep both of them in the market. This was an expected move since the higher variants of i10 had prices clashing with the recently launched Grand i10. Now as a gap has been created between the prices of the two cars, it would help avoid cannibalization of sales. Another reason for this could be that the engine development of the Kappa 2 can be concentrated on the i20 and Grand i10. It is expected that Hyundai India would soon come up with an option of automatic transmission in Grand i10.

Hyundai Grand i10 is equipped with a three-cylinder 1.1-litre diesel engine that produces around 69 bhp of power with 159 Nm of peak torque. The 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with five-speed manual transmission system gives a power output of 81 bhp. Hyundai Grand i10 returns a reasonable fuel efficiency of around 18.9 kmpl in petrol variant and 24 kmpl with diesel variant. Grand i10 is spacious and has a wheelbase of 2425 mm. Grand i10 comes with a completely different and better cabin, except the dashboard that is similar to the previous models. It has a fresh and appealing look and gives stiff competition to Maruti Suzuki Swift that has been ruling the charts for long in the hatchback segment.

The new model has been placed between i10 and i20 hatchbacks, which has a starting price of Rs. 4.29 lakh. The company has targeted this car at youngsters between the age group of 25 to 35 years. A few other contenders of this car happen to be the Nissan Micra, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat and Toyota Etios Liva. However, its strongest rival in line is definitely Maruti Suzuki Swift. The design of Grand i10 is based on the concept of Fluidic Design Language, which has been used in a lot of models developed by the auto maker. The model comes with additional features like key-less start/stop, leather wrapped steering wheel, rear parking sensors, rear AC vents and retractable outer rear view mirrors that give it an edge over its competitors. While Grand i10 will be seen fighting a battle of sales and demand with Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10 witnesses competition from Maruti Suzuki WagonR. Hyundai i10 comes in eight colour options and has now dipped down to affordable rates.

Hyundai has done extensive research and analysis while developing Grand i10 that in turn yielded positive results for the company. Developed and designed at the research centre of Hyundai in South Korea, this car is best suited for Indian roads. As of now, the hatchback has been working well in the market. The demand and sales have been on the positive side and same is with the feedback. Customers have expressed satisfaction with this new offering of Hyundai. With time, it is expected that this model would be soon counted in the highest selling cars of the company in India.
