General Motors India Private Limited (GMIPL), a completely owned subsidiary of American auto major General Motors, has slashed the retail prices of its Chevrolet SailU-VA hatchback in the domestic passenger car market. Post the cut, price of base 1.2 litre petrol trim of Chevy Sail U-VA is Rs. 4.19 lakhs (in the ex-showrooms of Thane) for the models manufactured in 2013, from the previous starting price of Rs. 4.44 lakhs.
Further, General Motors India is also offering a Rs. 25,000 additional cash discount on both the petrol and diesel Sail U-VA models manufactured in the year 2012. Therefore, the starting price of petrol powered Chevy Sail U-VA is further cut to Rs. 3.94 lakhs. The company is also offering an additional cash discount of Rs. 3,000 for all corporate on purchasing a 2013 manufactured model.
As per reports, the sales of Chevrolet Sail U-VA premium hatch have been falling regularly in the domestic passenger car market, since its launch last year in November. The company witnessed highest ever sales of the premium hatch in November '12 with 1,595 units sold in the country. However, the sales figures have tumbled recently and just 560 units of Sail U-VA were sold in February '13.
The Chevy Sail U-VA hatchback incorporates General Motors India's newest family of Smartech engines in both petrol and diesel guises. The diesel model is powered with a 4-cylinder 1.3 litre SDE Smartech common rail engine rated with a peak power of 77 bhp at and a maximum torque of 205 Nm. On the other hand, the petrol Sail U-VA comes fitted with a 1.2 litre Smartech petrol engine that rolls out a peak power of 85 bhp.
