Tata Motors has reportedly also began testing of AMT technology in its commercial vehicle segment. The technology features conversion of manual gearbox vehicle to automatic by usage of an automatic clutch, software for automatic gear shifts and an electric motor. AMT technology is stated to be better in terms of fuel efficiency in comparison to fully automatic gearboxes. Moreover, this technology delivers almost the same fuel efficiency figures as the one with a manual transmission.

In the international market, automatic trims sell more in comparison to manual trims. With the recent improvement in technology and developments times are not far when the automatic trims would also be popular in the domestic market. In future the AMT technology is also likely to feature in upcoming Tata Nano and Bolt hatchback.
