The German car maker, Porsche, is anticipated to enthral Indian auto fanatics by launching the new Macan. The company will embark on entry level Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment with its new creation, which is likely to be premiered at the Auto Expo 2014. This SUV is based on the platform of Audi Q5 and resemble the iconic layout of Porsche. Macan was believed to be one of the biggest project undertaken by the company, who had invested a mammoth 500 million Euros for the expansion of facilities that comprised the assembly line and paint shop for car's production. And the company seems to be elated finally after executing its idea to perfection.

The new Porsche Macan is available in three variants, namely S, S Diesel and Turbo. The base model of Macan S will come equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine developing a power output of 335 bhp. It is capable of reaching 0-100 kmph in just 5 seconds, attaining a top speed of almost 250 kmph. The diesel variant of Macan S will be the mid-model incorporated with a 3.0-litre V6 turbo mill producing 255 bhp of power, whereas the top-end Macan Turbo will have a 3.6-litre V6 twin-turbo engine under its hood. The Turbo engine is likely to churn out a maximum power of 395 bhp, while attaining 0-100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds, further clocking a top speed of around 280 kmph. All these models are melded with Porsche's PDK double-clutch transmission and the company claims that this SUV will return the most efficient fuel economy in its segment.

With its outlook matching Porsche Cayenne, Macan is an authentic sports car under the outlook of an SUV. The sturdy dynamical design of its exteriors gives the car a refreshing look. Its front fascia is lumped with LED's with the rear diffusers flanked above the twin tail pipes. Interiors are designed with the latest technology, reflecting the company's opulence. The base model is fabricated with Alcantara seats while the mid-model has upgraded leather sports seats for a unique driving experience. All the models of Macan have the provision of air suspension, enabling the car to lower its ground clearance by 15 mm and raising it by 40 mm on uneven turfs. The regular 19-inch wheels are also available with an option of 21-inch wheels for more steady drive. With the inclusion of Porsche Traction Management (PTM), the 4-wheel drive car offers a smooth ride with minimal loss in road grip.

Experts are of a view that Porsche Macan will be brought to the domestic auto market as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). However, speculations are also rife that in later stage, the car will be arriving India through a Complete Knock Down (CKD) path. Whatsoever the means of transporting is, one thing is assured that the car will bear a hefty price tag in the range of Rs. 55 lakh to Rs. 80 lakh. Once launched, it will face a direct competition from Audi Q5, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Volvo XC90. While the first three cars have seen a moderate demand, the Volvo SUV is still in the process of getting acclamation in the country. Amidst such rivalry, it will be compelling to see how the new model from Porsche manages to tempt domestic buyers.
