      Porsche eyes to sell 500 cars in India during 2011

      The Germany based luxury car maker Porsche is eying to increase its sales in the Indian market by as much as 500 percent in the current calendar year. For achieving this mark, the company will be expanding its distribution network along with reducing the delivery time for its cars.

      Speaking on the occasion of the opening of a new showroom in Chennai on Thursday, Mr. Ashish Chordia, CEO, Precision Cars India Pvt Ltd, said, "We hope to sell around 500 units this calendar year, up from 131 units sold last year. The order book position till mid February is 217 units." Precision Cars is an authorized importer and distributor of Porsche cars in India.

      While further commenting on the long waiting period for Porsche car models in the Indian market, Mr. Chordia said, "The waiting period for the sports utility vehicle (SUV) Cayenne is around 500 days and for other sports car models it is 100 days."According to him, the global order book position for Cayenne model is 74,000 units whereas the production is around 44,000 units.

      Moreover, the company will also enhance its distribution network in the Indian market in year 2011. The company will open new dealerships in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Bangalore and Kochi.
