Fuel efficiency, after price, is the most important factor for any two-wheeler buyer in the Indian market and high quality in that aspect often seals the deal. This can be quantified by the fact that bikes with a capacity of 125 cc and 100 cc are most popular in the country. Talking about 125-cc motorcycles, there are plenty of models in this category and many have gone on to perform exceptionally in the market.
Hero MotoCorp is the undisputed number one in the Indian bike market and one of the reasons for that is its brilliant product portfolio, especially in the segments that matter. Though Hero MotoCorp generates most of its revenue by selling 100 cc bikes, the 125 cc segment is not far behind. The Indian firm sells four bikes in this segment including Hero Super Splendor, Ignitor, Glamour and Glamour Programmed FI.
The Super Splendor is definitely the best selling among these bikes and registers excellent sales continuously in India. Belonging to the most popular bike series in the Indian market, Super Splendor is a clear indication of how well Hero MotoCorp has done in keeping the series going. The highlights of this bike are maintenance free battery, ASFS engine, stylish alloy wheels, side stand indicator and exciting graphics. Hero Glamour and Glamour Programmed FI are a combination of style and efficiency, which makes both models a hit in the market while Ignitor, a model that personifies style in the segment, is loved by youngsters. All these bikes are powered by 124.9 cc engines but have different power levels with Ignitor churning out 11 BHP and the other three churning out around 8.1 BHP.
Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp’s biggest rival in the bike segment, has four bikes in the 125 cc segment but all of them belong to the Discover series, which is the firm’s answer to the Splendor series. The models, named Bajaj Discover 125, 125 ST, 125 T and new Discover 125, cater to different sets of customers. The power levels produced by these bikes vary from around 10.5 BHP to 12 BHP with the Bajaj Discover 125 ST being the most popular.
There are a few other 125 cc bikes in the Indian market, such as Honda CB Shine, TVS Phoenix, Yamaha SS 125 and Suzuki Slingshot Plus 125. Out of these bikes, Honda CB Shine is right on top in terms of performance and gives Hero Super Splendor and Bajaj Discover 125 some fight.
