      PM Narendra Modi urges Ford to make Sanand facility a global export hub

      It has been learnt from sources that during a meeting between Ford Motor Company’s new CEO Mr. Mark Fields and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held in the month of June, the latter recommended to make Ford’s upcoming Sanand facility a global export hub. Before replacing the former CEO of Ford Motors company, Mr. Allan Mullaly on July 1, Mr. Mark Fields had come on market review to India in the month of June. The recommendation from PM came during their meeting wherein Mr. Fields updated the former on the development of Sanand facility.

      Ford’s upcoming vehicles, next generation of Ford Figo hatchback and new product Ford Figo sedan will be rolled out from the Sanand facility initially. With the focus on ‘One Ford’ global product strategy, the company is chalking out a plan to enhance its export markets from present 50 to 100-120 in the coming time. Ford has invested USD 1 billion on the development of Sanand plant, the manufacturing facility is expected to be functional by April 1st, 2015. 
       
      The estimated production capacity of the upcoming plant is around 2.5 lakh units on yearly basis, however in the beginning the company would confine it between 1.4 lakh to 1.5 lakh units. With Sanand plant being operational Ford’s production capacity will increase substantially by two times. In 2012, the Sanand plant was commissioned by then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Narendra Modi. With the addition of more export markets, Sanand facility will become a preeminent unit for the auto maker.
