Piaggio has received a hit in its ambitious plans of securing a higher position in the segment of scooters. It has now recalled 2613 scooters to fix issues regarding faulty fuel pumps. The recall comprises 12 Piaggio as well as Vespa models, which have been built between the years 2008 and 2011. As per the documents, which have been released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agency responsible for the identification of automobile recalls, the malfunctioning impeller might swell with time. This could lead to an issue of decreased pump clearance, leading to failing to restart. This problem might appear while trying to restart the scooter after it has been off for 15 to 20 minutes.
The faulty components, both in Vespa and Piaggio will be replaced at dealerships without any additional charges. It is not quite clear whether the scooters in India have been affected by this problem. The models affected by this problem are 2009-2010 Piaggio BV250, 2010 Piaggio BV350, 2009-2010 Piaggio MP3 250, 2008-2010 Vespa GTS 250, 2010-2011 Vespa GTS 300, 2008-2010 Vespa GTV 250, 2010-2011 Vespa GTV 300, 2011 Vespa LX 150, 2011 Vespa LXV 150 and 2011 Vespa S150.
