Peterborough city in England has been a popular destination on the global map and has been known for good rail links to all major cities. As per a survey conducted by Campaign for Better Transport (CBT), the 2014 Car Dependency Scorecard shows that Peterborough is indeed the worst place to be in England without a car. The survey was conducted on the basis on provisions offered to cyclists, pedestrians and public-transport users in 29 British towns and cities.

Researchers have stated that, Peterborough designated in 1967, should have been built with better public transport means to aid its citizens. The study shows that dependency on cars here is indeed the highest in comparison to other cities in the UK. The study also states, “While the historic center is densely packed and walkable, more-recent development has been spread more sparsely around the edges of the city.” Owing to weakness in public transport system it has been noted that people here are indeed heavily reliant on cars.

Speaking more on the occasion, Stephen Joseph, CBT chief executive, said, “To be good places to live and work, towns and cities need good transport. The most successful places in our research give people a choice in how you get around. They have good quality public transport, plan new development thoughtfully and make it easy and safe for people to cycle and walk.”
