A series of patent renderings of the BMW X2 that were submitted to a Japanese patent establishment have been leaked. These images show us how the final car could look, and on closer inspection, the rendered images are quite similar to the BMW X2 concept car that was showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

Although the pictures show the X2 with the same distinctive shape, there are some differences. To start with, the grille and headlights have definitely been toned down for the production spec, as the earlier design was a lot more aggressive. Meanwhile, larger contemporary door mirrors have been adopted in place of the concept car’s sleek mirrors (rumoured to be cameras).

Move on to the rear section of the render, and one will notice that the large bash plate and dual exhaust pipes have been dropped for a smaller skid plate and a single exhaust. Now, there have been a few instances of the BMW X2 lapping the Nurburgring, and sources add that BMW could also be at work to offer a sportier version of the car.

BMW’s X2 is rumoured to debut before the end of 2017 and will reach showrooms globally by the first quarter of 2018. We will share more news in the time to come.
