      One-time parking charges likely to be raised soon in Delhi

      On one side when automakers have been introducing modern cars in the Indian market, the Government has been planning on increasing the one-time parking charge on carbuyers. The new hike could be in-effect soon as the government has been making efforts to curb the number of vehicles and pollution levels.

      Post hike, the one-time parking charge on two-wheeler valued up to Rs 60,000 may go up by about Rs 1,000, while bikes costing over that would attract about 2% of the vehicle cost. As for cars, As against the current charge of Rs 2,000 on vehicle costing up to 4 Lakh, it could cost soon cost about Rs 8,000, whereas vehicles costing between 4 lakh - 6 lakh would attract Rs 16,000 or 4% of the vehicle cost. Cars priced between Rs 8-12Lakh could attract price of Rs 48,000 or 6% of the vehicle cost. For vehicles priced between Rs 12-20 Lakh would be about 96,000 or 8% of the vehicle cost. As for cars valued between Rs 20-40 Lakh would attract a parking charge of Rs 2 Lakh or 10% of vehicle cost and any car valued over 40 Lakh could attract 15% of vehicle cost or Rs 6 lakh.

      In the commercial vehicle segment, Auto-Rickshaw parking charge may be charged at about Rs 2,000 per annum and the Buses would be charged at Rs 32,000 as against Rs 4,000. Apart from strengthinig its funds, the government also gets a chance to utilize the amount to create adequate parking facilities.
