In the backdrop of recent reports of PSA Peugeot Citroen choosing Chennai for setting-up its manufacturing unit, the French car maker called on Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi on Thursday, exploring possibilities at Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) and the Sanand area. A delegation of Peugeot officials met Narendra Modi on Thursday.

Earlier, there were reports that Peugeot had decided to invest 4,000 crore to establish a plant at Sriperumbudur, choosing Tamil Nadu over other options like Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. But the company hasn’t made any official announcement in this regard, so far. The company had earlier announced that it plans to re-enter into the Indian market.

Meanwhile, the country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero Honda has shortlisted Gujarat and Karnataka, for establishing its fourth manufacturing plant in the country. The auto giant Maruti Suzuki is already in talks with Gujarat officials, and is widely speculated to set-up a new manufacturing unit in the state.

On the other hand, Chennai has also emerged as an auto manufacturing hub in the country with a number of leading car makers including Ford, Mitsubishi, Renault-Nissan and Ashok Leyland having their manufacturing base in the state.
