Nissan India plans to establish a brand and make a brand work with vehicles designed in India and produced by Indian engineers. These will be for the domestic and global markets, with plans of launching a new SUV in the coming years.
Thomas Kuehl, President, Nissan Motor India said that their team is working to make Nissan in India stronger. This is not only from an image point of view, but also for a good product portfolio. The first step will certainly focus on EVs (electric vehicles), but they are also looking to refresh their SUV portfolio apart from studying new technology like EPower, which may be completely localised.
The Nissan Kicks will be launched soon, but their big step to bring in volumes will be to launch of a very competitive SUV under the Datsun umbrella. This entry-level SUV will be a good option for the young car buyers who are looking at an affordable SUV. Furthermore, Nissan is also reviewing other SUVs like the Patrol, Pathfinder and Xtrail, which might not be volume-spinners but are suitable for the Indian market.
