Nissan Motors, a leading Japanese car maker, is looking forward to revive the Datsun car brand in the rapidly emerging auto markets like India, Indonesia and Russia. Initially, the company will be launching the Datsun brand in the Indonesian market, which will be followed by its launch in India and Russia in year 2014.

Nissan has already planned-up a huge investment of $400 million to set-up this brand in the Indonesian market, along with almost doubling its manpower and registering a threefold increase in the number of dealerships in the country.

Datsun has been a popular small car brand in the global market, and now Nissan is planning to enhance its market share in the emerging markets like India by marking its debut in this volume driven car segment. The Datsun brand cars will be competing with the likes of Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon.

In a recent statement, Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Nissan executives met Indonesian President, "It's a green car, affordable car, small displacement, high local content. It's going to be a generous car. The priority for the firm is for the Indonesian market and If there is any room for more capacity it will be located for the domestic rather than for exports, although cost is competitive”, he added.
