A Nissan Leaf teaser was put out once again. This time, the car was shown flaunting its aerodynamic design which will make the EV more efficient and thus increase its range.

Nissan teased the aero of the new Leaf EV ahead of September debut

In this latest teaser image, Nissan demonstrates how the air flows over the vehicle more efficiently reducing overall drag and improving stability while allowing it to cover longer distances between each charge. The speculated range of the new Leaf is somewhere around 340 kilometres. The second generation Leaf will also sit lower than the current car, says Nissan. This will help the electric hatch gain better stability at high speeds. The overall design will also be beneficial against a strong crosswind. Furthermore, a reduced aerodynamic drag will result in a quieter cabin.

The first gen Leaf was an innovative electric hatchback introduced when the electric mobility was nonexistent. The new Leaf will employ the new V-motion 2.0 design philosophy first seen on the new-gen Micra. This will make it more modern and attractive to look at compared to the blunt-looking current generation Leaf. It will be based on a new lightweight platform with a range of battery packs to give the EV better range than before. Additionally, the new Leaf is also slated to get Nissan’s ProPilot autonomous tech and a novel ‘e-Pedal system. Nissan claims that with the e-Pedal, the driver will only require one accelerator pedal for 90 per cent of the driving condition.

Nissan never planned to introduce the first gen Leaf in India. However, the Japanese carmaker has shown an interest in bringing their famous electric vehicle to India in its latest avatar. It will be a small volume imitative for sure, and its future prospects in India will depend upon the customer response. We expect that Nissan will showcase the upcoming Leaf electric hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo.
