      Nissan-Renault eyes to capture 5 percent market share in India by 2014

      Nissan-Renault, the collaboration structure between Japan based Nissan and French car maker Renault, is eyeing a market share of over 5 percent in the Indian market by year 2014. Both of the companies are aiming to add five new cars in their respective India portfolio each, over the period of coming two years.

      Nissan India is rapidly expending its product portfolio as well as sales & service network in the Indian market. The company had marked its debut in the mass-segment in July this year by launching its compact hatchback – Nissan Micra – in the country. The company is planning to role-out its New Global Sedan in India by the end of next year. With this, it also mulls to unveil a new multi purpose vehicle in the country by next year.

      On the other hand, Renault India is yet to launch its solo car in the Indian market. The company will launch its Fluence sedan in the country in May 2011, which will be its first ever luxury sedan in India. The Fluence model is expected to be launched in the price segment of Rs 10 to 14 lakh where it will be competing with the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. With this, Renault India is also planning to launch a premium crossover Koleos in India by October 2011, followed by 3 more car models in year 2012.

      Nissan-Renault JV is currently working on its highly ambitious ultra-low-cost (ULC) car project in association with leading two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto. The ULC car will be launched in the price segment of sub Rs 2 lakh where it will take on with Tata Nano. The car will be launched in the Indian market by year 2012.
