Nissan – Renault, a joint venture between the Japanese auto giant Nissan Motors and the French Car maker Renault, is planning to register a double fold increase in their total output in the Indian market. The joint venture firm is looking forward to take its total capacity to 8 lakh units in the Indian market by year 20115-16.
At present, the Chennai based facility of the company has a total annual manufacturing of 4 lakh units, from where both of these car makers deliver their respective portfolio models in the Indian market including the vehicle Nissan Micar hatchback and Sunny sedan, and Renault Pulse hatchback.
While recently speaking to ET, Mr. Takayuki Ishida, Nissan India's managing director, said, "We have increased the production capacity from 200,000 units per year to 400,000 from April, 2012. As demand increases in local and export markets, we keep exploring options of expanding the business."
Meanwhile, both Nissan and Renault are planning to cross badge their Nissan Sunny, Renault Duster and Nissan Evalia models in the coming years, to cut development costs and take on the competitors in India with both hands
