In a bid to boost the sales of its compact hatchback Micra in the cost sensitive Indian market, the Japanese auto giant Nissan Motors is looking to re-position this car in the volume driven A2 segment. Recently, a team of Nissan’s senior cost engineers from Japan had visited India to hold discussions with its vendors in order to decrease the cost of Micra’s components.

It has been widely speculated in the industry that the team of cost engineers had visited India to find-out ways to increase the localization level in the car along with re-looking at its engineering aspect. Considering the high demand for the comparatively lower priced cars in the A2 segment such as Maruti Swift, Ford Figo and Chevrolet Beat, Nissan India now seems to have realized that having cost advantage could really make a difference in the Indian market. The reduction in the price of Micra could raise a price war in the highly competitive compact hatchback segment.

At present, Nissan Micra is available in the price bracket of Rs 4,02,421- Rs 5,34,676 (Delhi ex-showroom). So far, the company has sold more than 5,000 units of Micra in the Indian market along with exporting over 9,000 units to foreign countries.
