Industry experts believe that the upcoming Datsun compact car will be pitched below the Nissan Micra premium hatchback in the domestic passenger car market. Interestingly, Nissan Motor India has decided to launch an entry level version of its Micra hatchback in the country soon. At present, the Japanese auto major’s cheapest offering to the domestic car buyers is the Micra model, whose base version starts with a price tag of Rs. 4.3 lakhs, whereas the top end trim comes at Rs. 6.6 lakhs.

The upcoming entry level Micra hatchback is anticipated to cost some Rs. 50,000 less than the present base variant. This will enable Nissan Motor India to take the competition head on, comprising the likes of Maruti Suzuki A-Star and Hyundai i10 in the domestic passenger car market. The entry level Micra is rumoured to be called ‘Micra Classic’, upon its arrival on the Indian turf.

Speaking of comfort and convenience features of the yet-to-be launched Micra Classic, the hatchback will come equipped with power steering, power windows, air conditioning system and central locking. The other features are expected to be of basic nature and quality, justifying the vehicle’s affordable price tag.

To be pitched above the upcoming Micra Classic, Nissan Motor India has also decided to introduce its much awaited 2014 Micra facelift in the domestic market this year. The revamped premium hatchback is expected to be more up market than the outgoing model and will flaunt redesigned front and rear design. The engines will remain same and both Micra facelift and Micra Classic variants could be powered with 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel engines.

As per industry sources, Nissan Motor India could launch its first Datsun model in the domestic car market by the end of 2013 calendar year. The upcoming Datsun model will be pitched above the entry level compact hatch segment and could be powered with 1.2 litre petrol engines. The Japanese auto maker is expected to introduce the petrol model first in India and if the response is good, then might launch the car’s diesel version as well.
