      Nissan India sales jump 44.57 % in December 2011

      Nissan Motors India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese auto giant Nissan, has registered a considerable surge of 44.57 per cent in its sales during the last month of year 2011. The company sold a total of 1,596 units of its India portfolio models during this month as compared to 1,104 units sold in the same month last year.

      The compact hatchback Nissan Micra remained the biggest contributor in the firm’s December 2011 sales by clocking sales figure of 1,036 units. Another mass segment car of the firm, Nissan Sunny sedan that was recently launched in the Indian market, accounted for a sales figure of 533 units during the month.

      Speaking on the company’s performance, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Nissan Motor India Managing Director, said, "With the launch of the Sunny diesel variant, we are on track to achieve the targeted sales performance despite the difficult market conditions in India."

      Besides Micra and Sunny, the company’s India portfolio models include premium sedan Nissan Teana, luxury sports utility vehicle Nissan X-Trail and sports car Nissan 370Z. The firm is planning to become a major player in the Indian auto market by aggressively expanding its Indian operations.
