Nissan Motor India Private Limited (NMIPL), the Indian subsidiary of Nissan Motor Company announced on 2nd May 2012 that the company registered sales of 3,467 units for April 2012, which showed a growth of 187 per cent over year-on-year (YOY) basis.

Growth in sales for the month of April 2012 was primarily headed by the newly launched Nissan Sunny, a sedan. Since its launch in September 2011, the sales figure of Sunny stood at 16,173 units. Contributing in the growth rate, the April 2012 sales of Nissan Micra, a premium hatchback, stood at 1,435 units, which reported an increase of 19 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year. However, rest of the sales were added by company’s X-TRAIL, a lifestyle SUV, Teana, a premium sedan and the iconic sports car 370Z.

Nissan Sunny has won several titles in the auto sector and also owes a large stake in company’s overall sales proportion from past few months. The diesel variant of Sunny is quite popular in the market, and thus it is witnessing a decent demand. Sunny is produced at Nissan’s state-of-the-art manufacturing unit, based in Chennai.

Ishida Takayuki, Managing Director, NMIPL, quoted “Our sales in April have been very impressive and reflect customer trust and confidence in our products. The Nissan Sunny has received an overwhelming response from the market and we are confident that we will continue to excel this year and propel growth for all our products.”

Dinesh Jain, Chief Executive Officer, Hover Automotive India (HAI), Sales and Marketing partner of Nissan in India, said “Our aggressive initiatives have enabled us to acquire the market acceptance and this coupled with our aggressive dealer ramp up on a National level have been contributing factors towards the success of the brand Nissan today.”

The hasty increases in Nissan’s sales have paced up the company’s momentum in the Indian market, which is followed by the launch of two models in tenure of 18 months. However, Nissan is also eyeing launch of its third model in the Indian auto industry soon.

For the time being, the company unveiled Evalia, which is an urban Utility Vehicle (UV), at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, scheduled in January. The showcase ceremony of Evalia was done in the presence of Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor.

Nissan has distributed Sunny in all of its 47 official dealerships throughout India. The base variants of Sunny (XE) are offered with a price tag of Rs. 578,000, while its mid variant XL is priced at Rs. 688,000. The top variant (XV) of Sunny is priced at Rs. 768,000 (all prices are of ex-showroom Delhi). As a part of company’s pledge to its customers, it provides a standard warranty of 2 years or 50,000 km, whichever comes first. In addition, customers can also buy an extended warranty of 2 years or 30,000 km. As a part of after-sales service, Nissan offers its patrons 24x7 assistance and an array of customer care and service schemes, which includes Roadside Assistance and Extended Warranty for all its cars.
