      Nissan India records massive sales growth of 178 percent in January 2012

      The Indian unit of the leading Japanese auto maker Nissan Motors has registered a sales growth of over 178 percent in the month of January 2012. The company managed to deliver 5,168 units of its India portfolio cars during this month, which was almost three fold of the total sales of 1,857 units in the month of January 2011.

      The recently launched mid-size sedan Nissan Sunny emerged as the biggest contributor in the company’s sales during the month with sales stood at 3,218 units. On the other hand, the compact hatchback Nissan Micra, which was launched in the Indian market in July 2010, remained a major contributor in the company’s sales in January 2012 with clocking a sales figure of 1,855 units.

      Speaking on the company’s performance during the month, NMIPL (Nissan Motors India Private Limited) Managing Director Kiminobu Tokuyama said, "Breaking the 5,000 sales-mark after only 20 months of operation is a milestone in our continuing development in what is one of Nissan's most strategically important markets."

      Besides Micra and Sunny, the other India portfolio cars of the company in India include premium sedan Nissan Teana, compact luxury Sports Utility Vehicle Nissan X-Trail, and luxury sports car Nissan 370 Z.
