Nissan India, a subsidiary of the Japan based leading car maker Nissan Motors, is ready to shift its gears in the Indian market with a series of launches scheduled for next one year. The company has planned-up as many as four launches in next one year including a diesel version of midsize sedan Nissan Sunny, a multipurpose vehicle and two more car models.
The Nissan Sunny is the fifth car model in the firm’s India portfolio which was recently launched in the petrol version in the Indian market. The firm is now geared-up to launch a diesel version of Sunny sedan by the month of January 2012, at the Delhi International Auto Expo.
The company will also showcase a multipurpose vehicle at the Delhi Expo, which is expected to be launched in the price segment of Rs 7 to 8 lakh in the Indian market. The new Nissan MPV is based on Nissan’s global Van. It will be competing with the likes of Mahindra Xylo, Tata Aria, Toyota Innova and Maruti’s upcoming Ertiga.
Moreover, the company plans roll-out a new small car in the Indian market in the price segment of Rs 3 to 4 lakh, where it will fight for space with the likes of Maruti A-Star, Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Spark, etc. Besides a petrol version, the car will also be rolled-out in a diesel version as there has been a major increase in the demand for diesel versions of small cars.
In a statement, vice president, product planning and program management office, Nissan Motor India, Satoshi Matsutomi, said, “Demand for diesel models has been evolving at a rapid pace in India. We have the 1.5 litre diesel engine on the Micra now but we have to look for something smaller than that for the future. May be it could be a 1.1-1.2 litre engine.”
