The Indian arm of Japanese auto maker Nissan Motor Company declared the launch of Nissan Safety Driving Forum (NSDF) in the country, which highlighted the advantages of safety technologies in cars. The initiative also focussed on the awareness of road safety among the country’s youth. Introduced in Mumbai on February 16 and 17, NSDF was organised in the parking hall of The Inorbit Mall in Malad.

Expressing his views at the launch ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of Nissan Motor India Private Limited, Takayuki Ishida, was quoted as saying, “The growing number of cars on Indian roads has also resulted in increased number of accidents. Nissan as an automobile manufacturer understands its social responsibility and strongly believes that "Safety begins with ME." The Nissan Safety Driving Forum has been formed to educate drivers, co-passengers as well as other road users on safety practices with a focus on reducing road accidents.”

Earlier this month, this initiative was organised in Delhi and will be now conducted in Chennai. This two-day event facilitates participants to develop safety skills with the help of simulator devices and panel displays. In the safety forum, applicants were taught the significance of airbags and seatbelts. Participants were also asked to test drive the vehicles of Nissan and develop skills about the onboard safety functions, which included the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS).

With this programme, Nissan India is planning to reduce injuries and fatalities caused by the road accidents. Also, NSDF reflects the auto maker’s commitment towards the Indian auto market in contributing to the growing mobility society.
