The Japanese car maker Nissan and its Indian subsidiary are eyeing Indian market as one of the best sources for the non-compact cars as well. Nissan Motor India is aggressively expanding its production bases as well as conducting hiring and sourcing exercises in the country.

Nissan Motor India’s plant at Oragadam near Chennai will act as sourcing hub for spares for Nissan worldwide operations. This plant will also be used for sourcing the non-compact cars spares from the sub-continent. All cars produced at this plant will have at least 90 percent localization. The company has already signed contracts with nearly 94 vendors for its Chennai project. It had received inquiries from its counterparts in Europe and the prospects of capitalizing the sourcing opportunity definitely interest the Indian counterpart. The European operations require cost-effective spares without compromising on the quality.

"We are here to stay. India is an important market for our company,” said Nissan executive VP and chief recovery officer, Colin Dodge. He also commented that the company market share in India has been increasing aggressively.
