Nissan India, the domestic subsidiary of the Japanese auto maker Nissan, has brought its 2012 released Evalia in a new look. Nissan India, that was started off in 2005, introduced a few successful models like Micra and Sunny. Also, the recently introduced Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Terrano has been quite a hit among customers and has recorded more than 6000 bookings in a short span of time. While Terrano seems to have created niche for itself among quite a number of trusted buyers, Evalia was somehow not so appealing in capturing the attention of customers even after one year of its release.

Nissan Evalia, the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) based on the concept of the highly successful NV200, has now arrived in the market with a modified design so as to lure maximum number of buyers this festive season. The company has been constantly trying to boost the sales of this MPV which, for long been have been subdued. The firm had announced a discount of Rs. 1.15 lakh in its price so that it could finish the stock of the previous generation model. Industry experts are of a view that this was another method of increasing sales, however, nothing seems to be working on the side of Nissan Evalia. The recent update was a much needed step so that it could cash in a major chunk of car buyers that happen to reach the highest number during the festive season lasting till December. As per the company, it has been selling off 200 units of Nissan Evalia per month on an average.

The extra features added to the MPV include sliding euro windows for the middle row, a full fledged glove box in front and centre row air conditioning unit. A practical and a significant feature that was long needed in this four wheeler were the sliding windows for the middle row passengers. This has brought in a lot of convenience for the travellers, however, they are more of a sliding flap than fully operable windows. This feature is similar to what Ashok Leyland Stile, designed by its partner. The previous bench set up is replaced by captain seats in the middle row that would work in the favour of the passengers, as per experts. It must be noted that the all new air conditioning unit in the centre row is available only in the higher variant of Nissan Evalia.

Apart from these changes, Nissan Evalia has not undergone with any modifications in its technical specifications. It is still comes equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel (K9K) engine delivering 85 bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of torque. It offers a good performance on road while returning a fuel efficiency of 19.3 kmpl. Moreover, it also features USB connectivity with audio system, while rear wiper, anti-glare internal rear view mirror, rear defogger and front row assist grip are also included in the package. The improved and enhanced seven seater MPV would be sold from Rs. 8.78 lakh onwards.

It comes with safety features like reverse parking camera and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). A few accessories that can be availed by the customers include roof spoiler, bumper corner protector and rear bull bar. The hype for utility vehicles is at its apex and it would be interesting to witness the modified Evalia battle with the likes of Toyota Innova and Chevrolet Tavera.
