The Japanese automaker, Nissan has reportedly discontinued its flagship MPV Evalia in the Indian market, due to its poor demand. The company has halted the production of the existing model of the Evalia in India, as a part of its comeback plan, claims a report. The Evalia MPV was launched against the popular Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo in October 2012. Since its launch, the MPV registered a sales of 2,412 units, whereas it rival – the Toyota Innova – has average monthly sales of 5, 250 units.
Commenting on the discontinuation of the vehicle, the company said that the Evalia’s unconventional design and styling might be the reason it failed to meet sales expectations that the company had.
The Nissan Evalia shares platform with the Ashok Leyland Stile that too was discontinued in May, 2015. Powering the MPV was a 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine, which was capable to produce 84.8bhp and 200Nm of torque. Mated with a 5-speed manual transmission, it returns am ARAI-rated fuel economy of 19.3kmpl. The Stile, too, was powered with the same engine, but it was tuned to offer 75bbhp and 185Nm of torque.
