As per Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total car exports from India reported flat 5.50 lakh units during 2013-14. The decline in export numbers for Maruti Suzuki has been associated with homologation norms in African countries and Algeria that have signed preferential import duty agreement with European companies. As per the agreement, European manufacturers can enter those markets by enjoying 10% to 20% lower duty payable as compared to the Indian car-makers.

Nisssan is further anticipating a rise in sales in coming months with the launch of Datsun brand in India. The parts for the Datsun brand manufactured here at Oragadam plant near Chennai, shall be exported to international markets where the brand is due for launch sometime soon. A number of body parts and engine spares are sent to over 14 countries across the globe. Currently, Hyundai holds the top spot in terms of car exports. Other international car-makers producing their vehicles in India like Volkswagen and Toyota Kirloskar Motors have recorded a marginal increase in exports.
