Japanese car major Nissan announced that it will be increasing the prices of its vehicles in the Indian auto market, including Micra hatchback and Terrano compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). The price hike, which will range between 2 per cent and 4 per cent, will be put into effect from January 2014. Reasons that have been named by the auto company behind this move are rupee depreciation and rising input costs. Richard D Spitzer, the Acting Chief Operating Officer of Hover Automotive India (Nissan's National Sales Company), mentioned that the price hike decision was inevitable owing to a higher exchange rate. He also stated that even though the rupee has seemingly stabilised, the impact on business, so far, has been quite high, forcing a price hike on vehicles that sell in India.

Spitzer was further quoted as saying, “Inflation-led rise in input costs and raw materials costs also cannot be ignored at this point. The price increase is marginal and we assure our valued customers that we will continue to offer them globally renowned products at affordable prices.”

The auto company has reportedly said in a statement, “The price increase will impact the purchase price of premium hatchback Micra, sporty Micra Active, mid-sized sedan Sunny, MPV Evalia and newly launched SUV Terrano.” At present, Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd. has a wide product range that it offer in the country. An all-inclusive list of vehicles of the auto maker includes Terrano, Evalia, Micra, Micra Active, Sunny, Teana, X-Trail and 370Z. The price of these vehicles ranges between Rs. 4.9 lakh and Rs. 56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
