Nissan Motor Company, the Japanese multinational car manufacturer, has decided to assemble its premium brand Infiniti in India. Earlier, it was imported as Completely Built Units (CBU) but the company has decided to start the assembly process for lowering costs. As per Andy Palmer, Vice President, Nissan Motor Company, Infiniti should enter the Indian subcontinent as it is a global renowned brand.

In order to compete with other luxury auto makers, such as BMW and Mercedes Benz, Nissan has decided to assemble Infiniti cars in India itself. This step will help the company save taxes and avoid hefty import duties, thereby reducing the overall price of this vehicle.

Although the economy of the country is moving on a negative graph, the demand for luxury cars in the market has not been affected. The individual sales performance of luxury brands, namely Audi, BMW, and Jaguar, are showing positive outcomes because of the constant increase in demand. Palmer further said that the global sales of Infiniti is around 1,50,000 units and this figure may reach the 5,00,000 mark if Infiniti is also introduced in countries other than India.

Officials of Infiniti count India among the prominent markets, where the auto maker should initiate its business operations for a better future. After its debut, the company aims to expand its luxury car portfolio in the market and, thus, grab eight per cent share of the total market. The luxury market of India is constantly expanding, with Toyota all set to introduce its own luxury brand, Lexus, in the luxury car segment.
