After taking the first step towards curbing pollution relating to diesel vehicles, NGT has now moved its focus towards petrol pumps in NCR. NGT is prompting the green panel to direct inspection of petrol pumps across NCR. For this purpose a bench has been set-up by NGT that will keep a tab on pollution not just by auto and ancillaries but even other departments like the forest department, Ministry of Petroleum and other oil companies like BPCL, HPCL and IOCL.
"We direct CPCB, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and Ministry of Petroleum to conduct joint inspection of any 10 petrol pumps in different parts of Delhi-NCR. The committee would collect and analyse samples and submit a report before the Tribunal," the bench said.
The company is also carrying out surprise checks of two-wheelers and four-wheeler vehicles to check their pollution levels. These inspections will take place in Delhi-NCR itself.
"Adulteration of fuel supplied to the end-consumers is being carried out in cities across India which has contributed to the air pollution and aggravated the already terrible conditions. A substantial cause of increasing air pollution from vehicular emissions is due to the adulteration of fuels at the stage of sale and even during transportation,” the plea mentioned.
