Reports from Japan have revealed that the next Toyota Corolla is going to be the recipient of a BMW engine as per the two brand’s tie-up in 2011.

With the agreement, both BMW and Toyota are to use their combined resources to jointly develop eco-friendly engines. Additionally, it also allows Toyota access to some of BMW’s diesel powerplants from 2014 onwards, like the 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesel units that’s currently used in the Toyota Verso MPV and Avensis saloon.

Slated to get either, or both of these motors, its likely that the top-end versions of the next generation Corolla will be equipped with these engines. Expected by the end of 2018, the new Corolla is anticipated to be an all-new model that will be based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).

On the other hand, BMW and Toyota has already inked a deal earlier, which will allow them to develop a sports car that’s due in the first half of 2018. Slated to be a Supra revival for Toyota, this car is also expected to be a successor to the BMW Z4. Stay tuned to Cartrade for more information in the following months.
