Toyota’s next generation Camry has been spotted testing. This iteration turns out to be the eighth generation, and has a sizeable fan following in the saloon segment, especially in the USA.

Currently being developed in North America, the camouflaged mule depicted in the picture does a great job of hiding everything except for the unmistakeable profile. Among the things that caught our attention was the rear end that tapers sharply from the C-pillar to the now smaller boot.

While the next Camry is expected to be based on the TNGA platform (Toyota New Global Architecture), it is also believed that the underpinnings will now be similar to the Prius. The benefits include weight reduction and a considerable increase in rigidity. At this moment there aren’t many details, but the car is likely to use a 2.5-litre four cylinder VVT petrol engine along with the option of a hybrid.

This iteration of the Toyota Camry is assumed to be called the 2018 model in North America, and may hit showrooms there in the last quarter of 2016 or early 2017. Taking this into account, Toyota India could probably rope in the next gen Camry to our market by the end of 2017.
