A heavily camouflaged Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was spied testing in California and this model is expected to lock horns with Ford’s strong selling F-series pick-ups later this year. It’s only been three years since the current Chevrolet Silverado has been in the market, but the model is underpinned by an older platform that has begun to show its age.

Also, with Ford now using aluminium-rich construction in its latest F-150 series of pick-ups, it was only a matter of time when GM was going to pick up the trend to reduce the weight of their large pick-ups and increase efficiency. Reports state that the upcoming Silverado will use retuned versions of the current series of engines, plus, there are rumours about the half-tonne models getting a diesel and hybrid powerplant too. Currently, only the heavy duty trucks in the Chevrolet range get the Duramax diesel motor.

Furthermore, it is believed that the 10-speed automatic transmission from the Camaro ZL1 may find a place in the new Silverado line-up. Chevrolet’s new Silverado 1500 is expected to hit showrooms later in 2018.
