Volkswagen, the German premium car manufacturer, is working on the next-generation VW Polo hatchback, which is scheduled to enter into production phase in Europe in early 2016. While the European launch of the hatchback will take place in 2016, the vehicle may launch in India by the end of 2017 or early 2018.

The next-gen Volkswagen Polo hatchback will be based on the modified and smaller version of the versatile MQB platform. It will also be the first compact car to be based on this platform; however, the new-generation Fabia hatchback partly shares the MQB platform. This platform would make the next hatchback lighter and stiffer, which in result will offer high fuel efficiency and performance. The next-gen Polo is expected to share its styling cues with the hugely popular Golf hatchback. It is likely to adorn a sportier and edgier design, and will be equipped with newly formulated silhouette.

The next-generation Volkswagen Polo hatchback is likely to grow in dimensions too. If reports are to be believed, the next-gen model will be equipped with a longer wheelbase, flatter roof and angled windshield. The hatchback is likely to be made available in both 3-and 5-door version. Interestingly, the company might also introduce an all-new SUV based on the next Polo hatchback in global markets.
