Toyota is looking to grab the attention of the visitors at the 2016 Indonesia Auto Show with the help of the all-new Fortuner. Unveiled last year, this much-improved version is headed for the Indian market in 2017.
The new Fortuner is an entirely new car, something that is apparent from its striking new design that features a large upper grille framed by thick chrome plating that extends around the projector headlamps. The C-pillar has been blacked out for that "floating roof" effect. Other features include side steps, roof rails on certain variants, LED tail lights, a shark-fin antenna and 17 or 18-inch wheels depending on the spec.
Inside, the Fortuner gets a reversing camera, seven airbags, hill-start assist control, rear air-conditioning, large touchscreen audio display, reverse parking sensors, keyless entry and start and downhill assist control.
Under the hood, the car will be powered by Toyota’s new GD series engines. The new 2.4-litre turbo-diesel is expected to replace the current 2.5-litre diesel unit, and a 2.8-litre mill will replace the current 3.0-litre unit. The new 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV motor is rated at 148bhp of power and 400Nm of peak torque. The 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV engine churns out 175bhp and 450Nm of torque.
The all-new Toyota Fortuner will compete with the likes of Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport when launched sometime next year.
