As the develops have nearly been complete by about 50%, it is likely that the next-gen Safari would be launched sometime by the first half of 2018. With the fresh upgrades, both the Sumo and Safari would comply to the crash test norms that would be in place by 2017. With new design and technological upgrades, the vehicle is indeed expected to perform well in the Indian market.

Under the hood, the new Safari shall be powered by either 2.2-litre VARiCOR engine or a 2.0-litre multijet engine. Sometime next year, the company also plans to launch a model update that would be slightly more powerful and generate about 165bhp of power and 400Nm of peak torque while being mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The 2018 model is expected to deliver better mileage figures too owing to lighter bodyweight structure. More details on the same may be known at a later date.
