The Swift is a superstar for Maruti Suzuki. Even though it has only seen one grounds up update it remains a huge money spinner. Now, as these leaked images show, the next-gen Swift is almost ready. It will debut next year and will be more aggressive and bolder looking than the current car.

Though the test mule was heavily camouflaged, it does bear resemblance to the leaked sketches we carried last month. In terms of design, the 2017 Swift will get a redesigned front with a new bumper, new headlamps, a bolder bonnet and a new grille. The profile will mostly continue unchanged but the new Swift will get a half blackened C-pillar with integrated door handles and blackened A-pillar as well. New tail lamps, rear bumper and roof spoiler will complete the revisions outside. Though the test mule sported steel wheels, the production variant will be offered with alloy wheels, at least in the top-spec ‘Z’ trims.

As for the interiors, the next-gen Swift will get a new dashboard with new AC vents and redesigned instrument cluster. It will also get a new multifunctional three-spoke steering wheel, revised climate control system interface and a new touchscreen infotainment system. The vehicle will also feature ORVMs with integrated turn indicators. Expect them to get fold function in the most expensive version.

Engine specification for the 2017 Swift is not known for now, but we can expect the current 1248cc diesel engine with 74bhp and the near 85bhp 1197cc petrol engine to continue. Both engines will be mated to 5-speed manual gearboxes with the option of AMT on the diesel version as well. To make things interesting, the company might also offer the 1.0-litre turbocharged (Boosterjet) petrol engine option on the new Swift in what might be called the RS trim.
