Hyundai starts teasing the 2016 Elantra before its launch

Hyundai has taken to social media to tease the upcoming Elantra as it will be launched in this month. The car has featured on the carmaker's facebook page to reveal its external look.

In comparison to the existing model, the 2016 Hyundai Elantra sports an even more aggressive and stylish look. Its dimensions have changed as it is now 4,610mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,450mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm. Overall it is 20mm longer and 25mm wider than the present Elantra that has been just taken off the Indian website.

The fascia comes with a re-designed hexagonal grille and swept-back headlights. The latter are expected to come with the dynamic bending lights. Up front, the bumpers have been tweaked for a sporty look featuring vertically aligned DRLs. The car will ride on alloy wheels that have a funky design. Completing the look are the wide LED tail lights at the back, which are in line with Hyundai's Fluidic design language.

Hyundai has also updated the interior with a refreshed styling. The cabin boasts of a new steering wheel that will feature cruise control for added comfort. There is a seven-inch infotainment system with touchscreen function. The standard safety features include traction Control, ABS, electronic stability Control, vehicle stability management, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a new driver’s knee airbag. The optional features include a Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist.

This new-gen Hyundai Elantra is likely to come powered by the same 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines. However, reports suggest that the carmaker might bring the new 2.0-litre petrol engine to India and a revision to the existing 1.6-litre diesel mill. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and automatic gearbox.

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is set for a launch in India on August 23 when variant-wise prices will be announced. This next-gen sedan will go up against the new Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia and the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze in India.
