The CR-V SUV, though a popular name, it failed to evoke impressive sales for Honda in India. The company has been working on the next-gen CR-V for quite a while now. Based on what could be seen from the spy shots, the next-gen CR-V gets bigger and will be offered with seven seats.

The CR-V which is currently sold in the market has a wheelbase that measures just about 20mm extra at 2,620mm more than the City sedan. Reports from AutoExpress indicate that the next-gen model will get an additional wheelbase measuring about 80mm and an increased length of around 50mm. The extra space allows the Japanese automaker to add a third row seat.

Expected to launch in the international market sometime by next year, it is expected to come with new options. Honda might offer a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit, while the diesel might get a tweaked 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. It is to be seen if Honda will also offer a 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo option on the upcoming next-gen CR-V.

In terms of safety, the next-gen Honda CR-V is expected to be offered with all modern safety features. The India launch may only happen post its debut in the international market. We also anticipate a rise in price for the new model.
