An all-new generation of the Audi Q5 will soon make its way in to the markets globally. The premium crossover, in all probability, will be out in majority of the markets by next year, featuring new underpinnings, up-to-date looks and more efficient engine options.

The technologies (Read: latest MMI software and virtual cockpit) which have been added to the latest-gen Q7 will now make their way on to the next-gen Q5. The latter will be built using Audi’s MLB architecture which also underpins the new A4 sedan. The new Q5 is expected to be lighter than the current model by around 100kg which should reflect in fuel economy and handling.

Under the hood, the new Q5 will feature four- and six-cylinder units, besides a plug-in hybrid. The latter would be labelled ‘e-quattro’ and feature hybrid technology with all-wheel drive. The top selling variants though will be powered by the traditional 2.0-litre TDI which will be more efficient than ever.

The new Audi Q5 will compete with the BMW X3 and the Land Rover Discovery Sport when launched sometime later this year in Europe.
