Nissan-Ashok Leyland has set the stage to take on its rival Toyota upfront as the former confirms to participate in the Auto Expo 2012 with its NV200 that would stare at the performance figures of Innova.

On the sidelines of Sunny sedan's launch, Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motor India, had indicated that the company's next in line car would be pitched against Innova. The contender turns out to be NV200, the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) that has tasted the Indian roads during uncountable tests in the recent past.

It must be noted that an intensive study of the Indian market prompted Nissan Motor Company to bring about mandatory changes in the interiors and overall look of the NV200. Counting on the changes applied to the NV200, the car maker aims to make the LCV eligible for entering the Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) segment of the market.

The Nissan NV200 would probably carry the HR15DE engine or the 1.5-litre dCi motor that finds a place under the hood of diesel models of Nissan Micra, Nissan Sunny, Renault Pulse and the Mahindra Verito. The engine will generate a maximum power of 85 bhp and a peak torque of 200 Nm.

The NV200 is capacious enough to take in seven people with ease and equips features that are exclusively meant to infuse much strength and confidence when it goes out to confront Toyota Innova. The to-be-MPV also won the title of New York's taxi of the future in United States recently. The NV200 has replaced the popular and reliable Crown Victoria taxis that are omnipresent on the roads of New York City.

This model is also expected to contend against Tata Grande, Mahindra Xylo, Maruti Ertiga, besides Toyota Innova. The price of the NV200 is most likely to fall in the bracket of Rs. 8 lacs to Rs. 12 lacs. As a matter of fact, the highly anticipated Nissan Leaf will also be launched at the expo.

Nissan Motor India Private limited has been on the right track, of late, as it registered a massive 149 per cent growth in sales in November 2011, against the same period last year. The considerable push in the sales figures is the result of unparalleled show put up by the Sunny sedan, which is still going strong as it enters the third month since start of deliveries.

Recently, the diesel-engined Sunny hit the Indian roads and during the launch event, Kiminobu Tokuyama said, "At a time, when the Indian market is witnessing an increase in demand for diesel cars, Sunny diesel with Nissan technology of high performance and fuel economy will be the right choice for our valued customers."

Thus, NV200 would irrefutably make way for Nissan to attain new highs in the said segment and make the checkered flag wave for the company in the near time.
