The third generation Toyota Fortuner test mule has been spotted ahead of its official launch in 2017. Though the SUV had been camouflaged, it is indeed for the first time that the new upcoming model has been testing in the country. The 2017 Toyota Fortuner comes with a host of new design and cosmetic upgrades.

The Japanese automaker Toyota has officially launched the new Fortuner in the international market last year. In terms of its dimensions, the new Fortuner is about 90mm longer and 15mm wider than the current model, while its wheelbase has been shortened by about 5mm and is about 15mm shorter in height. However, the interiors appear spacious and offer a premium feel. The SUV gets leather upholstery and a large infotainment system in the centre of the dashboard.

In terms of design, the new Toyota Fortuner sports a new slim grille design with fat chrome slat on each side. The new sleeker headlamps with projector units and LED DLRs gives it a sporty appeal. The bigger and bolder front bumpers now house round fog lamps with chrome accents. The lower roofline and LED tail lamps completes its sporty looks.

Under the hood, the new Fortuner is offered with two new GD diesel engine options - 2.4-litre unit and a 2.8-litre unit. The former generates about 148bhp and 400Nm of torque, while the latter generates about 177bhp and 450Nm of torque. It will come mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota might also offer a 4x4 option on the new Fortuner. It is to be seen if the company will also offer a petrol engine option in the country, though this seems to be unlikely for now.
