Tata Motors has launched the new Tata Winger Platinum in the Indian market. The company is pitching the car against MPVs like Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. The move is part of Tata Motors plan to tap the growing commercial utility vehicle segment that is divided in two categories — 6 to 7 seater and 10 to 13 seater. Almost three-fourths of the market is dominated by the former. Tata Motors had introduced Winger in 2007, under the 10 to 13 category.

“The 6 to 8 seater segment is growing at 26% CAGR, while 10 to 13 seater is growing at 4%. After the market study, we realised that we should have a product in the 6 to 7 seater category as it is one of the fastest growing segments,” said Sandeep Kumar, head—sales, commercial vehicle business unit.

The Tata Winger Platinum has been specifically designed for passengers who look for carriers but have to depend on utility vehicles. The innovative design of the Tata Winger Platinum ensures that for a similar vehicle size, it provides much more space in the passenger seating area. The Winger is powered by a 2-litre turbo charged inter-cooled diesel engine. The Tata Winger Platinum comes in two colour options — Pearl White and Cycus Grey — and a 1.5 lakh km/18-month warranty.

The Tata Winger Platinum BS-IV would be available at a price of Rs.7.40 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai, without Octroi).
